In today's society, our identities are shaped not only by who we are, but also by how we are seen. As Erving Goffman explains through Impression Management, people carefully present themselves to influence how others perceive them, much like actors performing on a stage. In that same sense, Charles Horton Cooley argued that our self-concept develops through the reflections we imagine in the eyes of others. Whether on social media, at work, or in everyday interactions, we often adjust our behavior to gain acceptance, respect, and credibility. By recognizing these patterns, we can choose authenticity over performance, building trust through character rather than appearance.

The Statement, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression" teaches people that presenting themselves as someone other than their true self is acceptable, and now is the time to flip the script on this narrative.

Let's break this saying down using our 3, 2, 1 method

3 - Play a role

2 - Be inconsistent

1 - Act

ACT the way the world expects you to act according to predetermined social scripts and stereotypes. Stay in that box you were born in and don't you dare think outside of that box.

This is definitely NOT the path to take if we truly want to see change in the world. Starting today, we are going to change the way we think about this quote. We will no longer recite it or use it as a guide to gain acceptance from others

With the help of our co-host Lynn Stewart, we now have a new way to walk, a new way to talk, and a better way to think. Lynn Single-handedly flipped the script on this toxic narrative; when asked how she feels about this saying floating around in society, Lyn acknowledged that there is a bit of truth to this narrative but that it is incomplete in its current form. According to Lynn and contrary to common belief, "First impressions introduce you, but consistency reveals you."

And so there it is - the script has been flipped to stand for something more meaningful and gives purpose to the idea that we should stand strong in our own identity and be good people.

Now, let's analyze Lynn's new and improved quote using our 3, 2, 1 method

3 - Elevate your Identity

2 - Be YOU

1 - Grow

Grow past your pain, your trauma, and the expectations the world has put upon you. YOU are the expert of your own life, YOU decide your identity, and YOU have the right to step into your personal power, your purpose.

Thank you, Lynn, for stepping up to the challenge and giving us something we can grow on.
